United World College Changshu China (hereinafter "UWC Changshu China") was officially founded in 2015. It is the first United World College in mainland China and the 15th UWC worldwide. Located beside Kuncheng Lake in Changshu, Jiangsu Province, its campus combines the character of a Jiangnan water town with the layout of an international school. The UWC educational model has been included by the Harvard Graduate School of Education as a leading example of educational innovation worldwide, and UWC Changshu China fully carries forward this established educational system. The school is a nonprofit, full-time international boarding school for students aged 15 to 19. Since its founding, it has welcomed students from more than 130 countries and regions.
UWC Changshu China has also received full accreditation from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), aligning its educational standards with leading international schools worldwide. Its defining educational feature is "deliberate diversity": the school intentionally creates a borderless learning community that brings together students of different nationalities, cultures, and backgrounds. Through a fully residential system in which students from different countries and cultural backgrounds live and learn together, the school provides an immersive intercultural learning environment.

I
A Progressive, Tiered Curriculum
UWC Changshu China follows an officially standardized three-year high school curriculum comprising a one-year Grade 10 Foundation Programme (FP) and the two-year International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) in Grades 11–12. Together, they form a complete, progressive learning system combining academic depth with innovative practice. All courses comply with official IB authorization requirements.
The Grade 10 FP Foundation Programme is a distinctive transition program developed independently by UWC Changshu China. Designed around the learning needs of students in China and the advanced academic demands of the IB, it centers on inquiry-based and project-based learning. The program focuses on developing independent learning, critical thinking, and teamwork, establishing a strong foundation for the academic intensity of the two-year IBDP.

During the Grade 11–12 IBDP stage, the school offers a broad range of subject-group courses in strict accordance with official IBO standards. These cover the six core IB subject groups: Studies in Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, and the Arts. The diverse course-selection system accommodates students' different academic interests and university pathways.
Building on the official IB Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) framework, the school has also localized its "Zhi Xing" experiential learning system. Through established activities including community service, outdoor exploration, creative practice, social-impact projects, and annual theme weeks, the system connects academic learning with social practice, advances whole-person education, and reflects UWC's commitment to sustainable development.

II
A Specialized and Integrated Faculty
UWC Changshu China has a highly international and professional teaching team of more than 90 educators from over 20 countries and regions. International faculty and staff account for 42%, placing the school among China's leading international schools for faculty diversity. Its officially verifiable team of IB professionals includes 31 IB examiners, four IB workshop leaders, and two IB authorization evaluators. A number of academic department heads have more than 15 years of international IB teaching and school-management experience. With extensive involvement in IBDP curriculum research and development, they bring strong capabilities in teaching, academic assessment, and faculty development, enabling them to respond precisely to the learning profiles and individual academic needs of students from different countries.
The school has built a comprehensive team to support student development. In addition to subject teachers, it provides dedicated university counselors, personal tutors, residential staff, and specialized program mentors, covering students' academic progress, university planning, physical and mental well-being, residential adjustment, and capability development. The school also regularly conducts teaching and research exchanges with other UWC campuses worldwide, alongside internal teaching iteration and curriculum improvement, continuously strengthening educational quality.

III
Distinctive Education Through Diversity and Shared Growth
A multicultural community is central to the educational identity of UWC Changshu China. Guided by the principle of "deliberate diversity", the school uses a carefully designed admissions composition to achieve a balanced mix of students across nationalities, ethnicities, cultures, and life experiences, creating an immersive intercultural learning community. Its fully residential model places students of different nationalities and grade levels together in dormitories. Through everyday life, students develop intercultural communication, inclusion and understanding, teamwork, and problem-solving—the core competencies required of global citizens. This is also a defining educational model shared across UWC worldwide.

Financial aid and equitable education are another important strength. The admissions process evaluates students on their abilities and potential rather than their family's financial circumstances. Eligible students may receive full or partial financial aid, helping ensure equitable access to high-quality educational resources. The school also connects graduates with the global UWC alumni network, the Davis United World College Scholars Program, and more than 100 leading universities in China and overseas, providing dedicated scholarships, financial aid, and university resources through a broad platform for growth.

UWC Changshu China is committed to whole-person education and rejects an approach focused solely on scores or university admission. It has developed an integrated system combining academic courses, experiential activities, and community life. The school offers nearly 100 officially recognized student activities and clubs spanning outdoor exploration, water sports, cultural exchange, public service, environmental practice, and academic discussion. Students are encouraged to move beyond the classroom, participate actively in society, and create social value, developing empathy, leadership, social responsibility, and an awareness of sustainable development. In doing so, the school puts into practice the founding UWC commitment to education for peace and service to humanity.

Conclusion
Since its founding in 2015, United World College Changshu China has faithfully carried forward more than six decades of UWC educational principles while integrating them deeply with the strengths of Chinese education. The result is a distinctive and highly recognizable international educational model. With an officially authorized standardized IB curriculum, an international and professionally certified faculty, a diverse and inclusive community, and advanced academic platforms, the school remains committed to developing young people with global vision, humanistic concern, and a strong sense of social responsibility. Through its professional credentials, structured curriculum, and distinctive educational philosophy, the school has become a benchmark for international quality education in China, providing young people with an outstanding platform to connect with the world, serve the public good, and realize their own value.
