On July 15, 2026, KingLead officially released the KingLead 2026 China International Schools July City Index. Building upon the KingLead Annual International Schools City Index, this index introduces a monthly dynamic monitoring initiative as an innovative achievement, designed to provide a more timely reflection of changes in the distribution of high-quality international educational resources across various cities.

The index relies on KingLead's years of accumulated international school big database, integrating the monthly rating results of the KingLead International School Brand Value and Innovative Competitiveness rankings, as well as the annual KingLead International School Competitiveness ranking results, to systematically conduct quantitative analysis of high-quality international school resources across dozens of cities. It aims to foster a virtuous cycle and high-quality development among international schools, internationalized industries, and the international talent ecosystem, and to provide a brand-new dynamic observation perspective for the industry and society.

Background

Amid the technological revolution at the global level, innovative talent has become a core indicator of a nation's comprehensive competitiveness. International schools serve as both important bases for cultivating innovative talent and vital educational carriers connecting China with the world. Against this backdrop, China's international school industry is undergoing a profound transformation from scale expansion to quality enhancement, with the talent cultivation system being continuously optimized and innovated.

Cities concentrate innovation factors, cutting-edge industries, and international talent, making their international education development level a reflection of their comprehensive competitiveness. Current industry evaluations mostly focus on individual schools, with a lack of systematic observation from a macro perspective. As artificial intelligence evolves and global competition for innovative talent intensifies, establishing a long-term, dynamic, and referable city index observation system will help foster a virtuous cycle and high-quality development among international schools, internationalized industries, and the international talent ecosystem.

KingLead's ranking data is based on its dynamically updated global database of international schools and field research conducted by international education experts from KingLead Research.

Evaluation Methods

The KingLead 2026 China International Schools Monthly City Index Model assigns scores on a gradient basis according to the highest rating each listed school achieves across KingLead's three rankings — Brand Value current monthly rating, Innovative Competitiveness current monthly rating, and annual Competitiveness ranking. The relative level of high-quality international school resources in each city is quantified by first summing all listed schools' scores within the city to obtain an initial total score, and then applying a benchmark conversion to derive the final index. All listed cities have at least one high-quality international school rated AAA or above.

The KingLead China International Schools Monthly City Index Model is constructed as follows:

1. Single School Scoring Standard: Each international school is assigned a score based on its highest rating across the three KingLead rankings (AAAAA = 30 points, AAAA = 10 points, AAA = 5 points). If a school is listed on more than one ranking, only the highest rating is counted once, with no double counting.

2. City Initial Total Score: The scores of all listed schools within the same city are summed.

3. Index Conversion: The highest initial total score among all cities is taken as the benchmark and set to 100 points. The index scores of the remaining cities are calculated using the following formula: City Index = (City Initial Total Score / Highest City Initial Total Score) × 100. The final city index results fall within the range of 0–100.
