北京京西学校以优异的成绩展现了全国领先的办学实力,在京领榜单发布会暨诺奖创新论坛上,北京京西学校总校长Marta Medved Krajnovic受邀作为全国名校代表,在京领诺奖创新论坛上,与3位诺奖得主、哈佛、剑桥大学讲席教授同台进行主旨演讲。

以下是京西总校长的演讲内容:




大家好,我是梅德巍博士, 北京京西学校校长。


在本次演讲中,我将分享京西学校如何进行创新才能培养,当然,我们清晰地认识到学生本身就是我们创新型人才。


首先,创新是什么?对我们而言,创新是一个永不间断的并且不断进行细微改进的历程。


WAB的使命是:融合,激发,挑战:贡献,我们希望学生成为那些将我们的使命带到世界各地的使者,他们能够激励身边的人,挑战自我,影响他人,使世界变得更好。


如何培养学生的创新能力?我们通过多种形式来达到这一目标,而多样化的方式就是能使学生全面发展的教育。


我们努力激发和鼓励我们的学生不仅要动脑思考,还要用心感受并且付诸于行动。


谈到开拓学生的思维和提高学生认知能力时,我以国际文凭课程中学项目评估中的例子来举例。




Hello everyone, my name is Marta Medved Krajnovic and I am the head of Western Academy of Beijing or WAB.


In this presentation I will be talking about how we at WAB are cultivating our innovative talent and, of course, we understand that our students are our innovative talent.


First of all, what do we think innovation is? For us, innovation is a continuous, endless journey of small incremental improvements.


WAB’s mission is to connect, inspire, challenge and make a difference and we hope that our students will be those who will be taking our mission into the world and where they will be connecting with others, they will be inspiring others, challenging themselves and others to make a difference for the better of the of the world.


How are we cultivating our student’s innovative talent? We do it in many ways, and all of these create one holistic picture of whole child education.


We are trying to inspire and encourage our students not only to think, but also to feel and to act.


When talking about developing our students thinking and cognitive skills, I can give this example from the International Baccalaureate Middle Years program assessment.

中学项目是京西学校为10至16岁的学生安排的教学计划。每个学生可以选修7至8门科目,在此评估表中我们可以看到,除了对传统教育中知识的理解和应用等内容进行评估外,我们的评估还涵盖了更广的范围。


大家都对我们所注重的方面进行评估。通过这份评估标准我们可以清楚的看到,我们高度重视学生多方面的能力,包括探究、调查、分析、综合处理信、产生想法并形成计划、进行批判性和创造性的思考、寻找问题的解决方案、应用解决方案、评估和反思的能力。总结过程中的优势和不足,并进行沟通。


通过所有的评估过程,我们希望可以开发学生的跨学科和超学科技能,与此同时,我们也希望提高学生的跨文化能力。在全面教育中发展这些所有能力是不够的,我们还帮助学生作为一名学习者更好地了解自己,不仅是作为学习者,而且包括其社会性和情感发展。


我们的学生作为独立的个体需要知道自己是谁,做什么会使他们感觉良好,如何让自己更加成功。只有对自己有自信,才能对他人投注同情,并予其支持和帮助。


从学生进入京西校园开始,我们就开始培养他们的自主意识,以及赋予学生采取行动,在他们关心的问题上做出改变的能力。我们希望学生在学校中或自学的过程中成为一名积极的参与者。我们希望他们在离开京西的时候成长为一名真正的全球公民,因为他们不仅被动接受身边发生的变化,而是能够成为让自己和整个世界的美好而积极努力的人。

The Middle Years Program is the program that WAB is implementing for students aged 10 to 16 years old. Each student can take 7 to 8 subjects, and you can see in this assessment grid - that in addition to assessing what is traditionally assessed in in education such as knowledge and understanding, we are assessing many more things.


We all know that we assess what the value. What you can see is that we highly value our student’s capability to inquire to investigate, to analyze and synthesize, to process information, to plan and develop ideas to, think critically and creatively, to find solutions to problems, to apply solutions, to evaluate and reflect on what went well, what went not so well, and to communicate all of that.


Through all of this process, we are hoping that we are developing our student’s interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary skills, but at the same time we also want to develop our student’s intercultural skills and competences. Developing all of these competences in holistic education is not enough. We also are helping our students to understand themselves better as learners, but not only as learners, also as emotional and social beings.


Our students need to know who they are as a person, what makes them feel well, how they can be more successful. And only by feeling well about themselves, they can have the empathy to also feel well about others and support and help the others too.


One strong thing that we are trying to develop in our students from the very beginning once they enter WAB campus, is to develop in them the sense of advocacy and agency. We want students to be active participants of whatever is happening in our school or to themselves in their learning journey. And one day we would really like them to leave WAB as true global citizens, as those who will not only be passive recipients of whatever is happening around them, but active agents for the good of themselves and for the good and better of the whole world.

近期,在我们最近的学校资质认证过程中,我们的教育历程受到了高度赞扬, IBO等机构对我们的教育改革表示十分认同。


从幼儿园到12年级,京西学校在教育过程中的每一个环节都鼓励学生发挥创造力,跟随他们的爱好不断进行深入学习。


Connect Inspire Challenge Make a difference


I think WAB is unique by that fact that it is really a school that is true to its mission.WAB is also unique in the fact that it allows the students to chart the course of their education.


WAB invites the students in this highly individualized process of co-constructing their learning experiences, and that's actually allowing the students to learn in the way that they learn best.


We have embarked upon a remarkable educational journey which we call FLoW21, and through that journey we're trying to redesign the students learning experience, redesign the education and lead the way globally.


In our very recent reaccreditation process, we got highly commended for our educational journey and, for example, agencies such as IBO really endorsed it.


At every point in their educational journey - from Early Years up to Grade12, WAB allows the students to be creative and to follow their passion and deepen their learning.


WAB is really a diverse school, with students coming from 50 different nationalities. In addition to excellent academics, our students can actually fulfill their lives and pursue their passions also through engaging with over 400 different sports clubs and activities.

What we do at why would not be possible without the type of teachers that we have. Our teachers are highly qualified, they're engaged, they're competent, and they deeply care about their students.


Our teachers try to reach every child - they teach them, mentor them, scaffold them. They allow them to explore their strength and weaknesses in a very supportive way. WAB teachers do not only teach here, they live the WAB mission.


We think of ourselves as a big global community where students, teachers, staff, parents come together, work together and have fun together.
