在京领榜单发布会暨诺奖创新论坛上,上海诺科学校校长李健作为全国名校代表,与3位诺奖得主、哈佛、剑桥大学讲席教授同台进行展示。


以下为李健校长的演讲内容:



大家好,我是上海诺科学校校长李健。


长期以来,国际教育一直是家长们关注的焦点与痛点,这也是教育从业者们需要思考和解决的问题。面对稀缺的优质教育资源供给和巨大的社会需求之间的矛盾,家长们呼吁更多的教育提供者来解决孩子们的读书问题。随着社会的不断繁荣,越来越多的家长愿意让孩子尝试国际教育。


今天,社会对教育提出了更高的要求。它向我们发出了灵魂的拷问:教育的目的是什么?教育如何更好地推动社会进步?我们如何教会学生做理性的思考者?我们需要为未来培养什么样的人才?


在国际学校实施教育实践时,我们需要遵循育人原则。十年来,诺科一直在思考,也一直在进步。在教育实践的过程中,我们始终坚持以人为本,因材施教”的原则。既然我们招收的是中国学生,我们就必须认识到,他们的学习习惯、学科基础、语言能力、思维方式、学习情境、社会环境等,都不同于在西方体制内成长的学生。


因此,诺科更以学生为中心,考虑中国学生的独特性,进行教育理念、内容及方式上的创新设计。我们努力培养不仅在中国有立足点的终身学习者,也是一个具有“放眼世界,敢于探索,独立思考”的终身学习者。


未来有很多不确定性,世界也充满挑战。因此,教育需要具有前瞻性,需要面向未来。今年的新冠疫情给我们所有人上了一课,特别是我们的学生,必须接受训练,以应对不确定性,并为未来做好准备。从本质上来讲,思考能力、跨文化交际能力、合作共建能力、多学科知识结构、创新能力等等,这些都要求我们的学生永不止步,勇往直前,我们要塑造学生勇敢的品格,养成终身学习的习惯,具备可持续的学习力。这样的话,未来学生既有能力谋求个人的幸福,也能为社会做出积极的贡献。


因此,诺科提供了中文课程,A-Level课程、AP课程,同时融合了IB课程的核心理念,我们还精心设计了许多丰富多彩的课外活动。


另外,学生学习的过程也可以动态跟踪,每一位学生的课程表是不同的。高中是学生积累知识,获得和联系所需能力,以及学习独立思考的阶段,知识的学习不仅是一个基础,更是一个过程,重要的是,孩子在身体和心理上如何成长,以及在这个过程中他的性格或能力如何发展。


所以,我们仅仅提供丰富和创新的内容是不够的,还需要通过丰富创新的方式来开展这些教育活动。作为一所创新型的文理学院式高中,我们在改进传统教学方法上进行了很多的尝试和探索,逐渐形成了一套打破校园限制、全校联动的教育教学体系。


例如,诺科的学生,每学期要撰写文书,毕业时要撰写论文,并公开演讲,这就把课堂知识学习和研究调查能力结合起来,让学生知道如何去探究。此外,我们的学生必须参加各种校内外体育运动和社团活动,在这些实践活动中,我们鼓励学生思考并总结问题,学生要学会在成功和失败中不断反思。通过这样的过程,让学生明白学习无处不在,不只是在课堂。


诺科十分注重科学素养和艺术素养的培养,或许,你不必成为科学家或艺术家,但将来不管从事何种行业,这些品质是必不可少的。为了激发学生客观地认识世界,发现美,更好地了解自己和世界,我们的课堂会设在艺术馆、博物馆、研究所、公司等地方。


在学生管理上,我们提出了诚信原则和品格养成计划,使学生能成为合格且受人尊敬的未来公民。


在传统的学校里面,部门冗杂,跨部门的合作往往不够顺畅,为了改变这种状况,诺科在管理上借鉴项目式管理理念,成立了六大中心(学生发展中心、学生活动中心、学生关怀中心、学生学习中心、学生考试中心和学生服务中心),通过六大中心打通和整合各部门的资源,从而更有效地为学生提供全方位的服务。


众所周知,学校是社会不可分割的一部分,而社会则是更大的学校。我们打破象牙塔的约束,让学生能够接触社会,我们利用全世界的各种资源,使学生能够有针对性地感知、接触和训练。让学生“走出去”,把资源“引进来”,学校无疑是学生和世界联系的桥梁和纽带。


总之,在国际教育的道路上,中国的国际学校还很年轻,还有很多的事情可以去做、去探索,学校的文化、历史、理念都需要时间去沉淀。

Hello, everyone. I’m Lee, the Principal of North Cross School Shanghai.


For a long time, international education has been a focus of concern and a pain point with parents that raises problems that educators need to think about and try to resolve.


Facing the disparity between a huge demand for high-quality education and the scarce resources, parents are calling for more education providers to address this problem. As our society continues to prosper, an increasing number of parents are sending their kids to international schools.


Today the society has set higher requirements for education. This prompts us to ask: what is the purpose of education?How can education better promote social progress?How do we teach students to be rational thinkers? What kind of talents do we need to cultivate for the future?


When implementing education practices in an international school, we need to follow the principles of education.For the past 10 years, North Cross School Shanghai has been thinking, trying and making progress in this endeavour. In the process of educational practice, we adhere to the principles of people-oriented education and teaching students in accordance with their aptitude.Since we admit Chinese students, we must be aware that their learning habits, language abilities, thinking modes, learning context and social environment, are quite different from those brought up in Western countries.


Therefore our school is more student-centred in the sense that we design educational concepts, contents and teaching methods while taking into consideration the unique characteristic of Chinese students.


We strive to cultivate lifelong learners who not only have a foothold in China but also a global perspective and who dare to explore ceaselessly and think independently.


There are a lot of uncertainties in the future, and the world is full of challenges. Thus, education needs to be perspective and forward-looking. The Covid-19 epidemic this year has taught us a lesson that we, especially our students have to be trained to deal with uncertainties and to be prepared for the future.


In essence, thinking ability, cross-cultural communication ability, cooperation and co-construction abilities, multi-disciplinary knowledge structure and innovation abilitie all require unrelenting efforts and the spirit to explore bravely, therefore we should mould students with brave characters, advocate lifelong learning and foster sustainable learning habits. In this way students can develop the ability to seek personal happiness and make contributions to the society.


For that purpose, North Cross School Shanghai provides Chinese courses, A-Level and AP courses and integrated the concepts of the core subjects in IB, we have also designed many extracurricular activities for students.


This learning process is also dynamiclly tracked. Each student's timetable is different, high school is a stage for students to accumulate knowledge, to gain and practise needed abilities and to learn to think independently. Learning of knowledge is not just the foundation, it is also a process. What is important is how the child grows up, both physically and psychologically, and how he develops either in his character or in his competence during this process.


Therefore, offering a rich and innovative content alone is not enough, we need to augment it with rich and innovative ways to carry out these educational activities.


As a school, we have made a lot of attempts and explorations as we seek to improve our traditional teaching methods and gradually formed a set of education and teaching system that breaks the constraints of school departments and guides students to explore beyond the school walls.


For example, students at North Cross School Shanghai are required to write papers similar to college essays every semester as a graduation requirements. This practice allows the students to combine in-class study with research, to develop investigation ability, and to embrace the idea of exploration.


Besides that, our students must participate in all kinds of sports and community activities inside and outside of the school. In these practices, we encourage them to think and summarise, students learn when they do reflections on their successes and failures.


Through these process, students get to realise that learning is not only constricted to the classroom, but rather it takes place everywhere.


We also attach great importance to the training of scientific literacy and artistic accomplishments.You don't have to be an artist or a scientist. However, no matter what industry you will be in the future, these qualities are essential.


To inspire the students to perceive the world objectively, to appreciate the beauty, to better understand themselves and the world, our classes are held in galleries, museums, research institutes, and companies, etc.


In regards to student management, we have established an honour system and character development program to empower students to become qualified and respectable future citizens.


In traditional middle schools, there are often some obstacles and barriers to cooperation between these departments. We want to change that, similar to project based learning, we have tried to integrate the concept of project-based management into school operation. We have set up six centers which include people from different departments. Through these centers, we pool resources from all places to provide all-round services for students more efficiently.


Schools are an integral part of society, and the society is a bigger school.We try to bring our students into contact with the society. We utilize all kinds of resources from around the world for our students, so they can perceive, explore and develop skills in a goal-directed way.


Sending students out and bringing all kinds of resources are what we have been devoting ourselves to, so that the school can serve as a platform and a link between the students and the world.


To sum up, Chinese international schools are still young, and there are still a lot of things to be done and to be explored. It takes time for the culture, history and educational ideas of a school to gain ground.


Our school will insist on building a school that boasts a high teacher-student-ratio, forges a learning and innovative faculty and adheres to the concept of lifelong learning and bold exploration.
